All too often I see customers rushing around the Galveston parking lot, hurriedly trying to tag their luggage for their cruise. There is not enough info on the web on how to tag your luggage, so I thought I could help.

Tagging your Luggage on a cruise

Tag Every Bag

Make sure you tag every bag (even your CARRY-ON). Name and Cell phone number on bag. I also recommend keeping your cell phone on after you get off your cruise. It seems frequently, a bag has been left at my parking lot, and when I call the number on the tag, it’s a home number or a cell phone that is turned off.

Staple the Tag on the Luggage Handle (top handle)

If you have a duffel or carry-on bag that has two handles that come together, only tag one handle, not both together. The reason for this is if you have to get in the bag, you won’t have to rip the tag off to open the handles. Use plenty of staples (they’re cheap, after all).

Know How Many Bags You Have

Also know how many bags you have. Many times a bag is left because there is a lack of communication between family members. Before you leave the house set all your bags outside the car and count them. Write down the total number of bags you have on the trip. I promise you, it will help you out. Most people don’t know their baggage count.

Inform Your Driver and Baggage Handler of Breakable Items

let your driver/baggage handler know if you have anything breakable in your bags.

Keep Your important Papers on Your Person

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR IMPORTANT PAPERS AND PASSPORTS/BIRTH CERTIFICATES IN YOUR BAGS THAT ARE BEING CHECKED IN…. KEEP THEM ON YOUR PERSON INSTEAD.

I don’t know how many people I have had to pick up from the Port of Galveston after being denied boarding, because they checked their bags in containing all their passports/birth certificates. There is no way for them to locate your bag once it’s been checked in. They have a terrible tracking system at the port…. that is to say, there IS no tracking system.

I also made a video on how to tag your bag….Not a great video but a video:)
