Seasonal cruises from Galveston are now a thing of the past for one cruise liner. Royal Caribbean recently announced it is now offering year round cruises out of Galveston, TX for all of its passengers.
For a number of years, Royal Caribbean has offered only seasonal cruises out of Galveston. In deciding to sail year round, the company reached an agreement with the Port of Galveston to expand the capacity of its cruise ship terminal to accommodate Royal Caribbean’s ship Navigator of the Seas, which is the vessel being used for year round cruising.
Cruise Terminal number two is being expanded as a result of the agreement. This terminal is currently around 81,000 square feet, and is capable of seating approximately 800 people. At this time, it is not known how big the expansion on this terminal will be; however, the cost of construction is estimated to be around $10 million upon completion.
Navigator of the Seas replaces another Royal Caribbean ship called Mariner of the Seas. This new ship will offer round trip cruises to the western Caribbean that are up to seven nights in duration. In January 2014, she will undergo drydock revitalization, which will include adding new restaurants, floor-to-ceiling windows in staterooms and virtual balconies in select areas among other things.
In making these new changes, Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Lisa Bauer remarked that” we are thrilled to be home porting Navigator of the Seas with her new enhancements and first-at-sea amenities year round in Galveston.” The director of the Port of Galveston, Mike Mierzwa echoed these sentiments by saying “The repositioning of Navigator of the Seas to the Port of Galveston represents Royal Caribbean’s confidence in the Port of Galveston’s efficient cruise operations….we are excited that Royal Caribbean has chosen to sail year round from Texas’ star cruise port.”
This new announcement means that there will be even more opportunities than ever to embark on a cruise from the Port of Galveston. While on one of these cruises, you’ll need to park your vehicle safely, so contact us for a reservation before you depart.
